FAQs
Do we have to work with horses?
The short answer is no. Equine-assisted work is one avenue that effectively promotes change, but it’s not the only avenue. By incorporating multiple, effective modalities, we set goals with you and for you. We offer coaching that gets you moving forward, with or without horses.
How do equine-assisted services work?
At Healing Reins, we have been trained through the Natural Lifemanship Institute to bring a trauma-informed, relationship-based coaching practice to our farm. In this model, clients partner with a horse of their choosing and begin to form a relationship with their horse as they move through our program. Horses bring an intuitive presence into their relationships that connects us, even if you have never had any experience with horses before. It is through this connection that we can gain insight into our own connections with ourselves, with the people around us, and with the world at large. Throughout this process, we work with the biology of our brain and how we were made to function, to bring learning through experience into your life. We don’t just talk about how it might feel to change, we feel it as we do our work with the horses...and it’s effective. Using bottom-up regulation techniques, awareness of thoughts, feelings, and sensations, and relational principles to guide our work with the horses and ourselves, real change can occur.
What if I’m afraid of horses?
There is absolutely no horse experience necessary to participate. During your consultation call, we can assess if this type of program is right for you. But in our experience, fear is not an obstacle to this healing work. We will walk with you wherever you are, and it is completely your choice how and when and if to involve your horse. We will never push you to do something that is outside of what feels right for you. We welcome you here, fears and all.
Do I have to get on the back of a horse to participate?
At Healing Reins, all of our work with horses at this time is from the ground. Meaning that you will not be riding the horses, but rather you’ll be building relationship with them while keeping both boots on the ground.
Do you take insurance?
At this time, we do not accept insurance. We are working with acquiring funding sources that can provide assistance for service fees. Please inquire if financial issues are standing in the way for you, and we can discuss any options that are available.
